Background

This is the official website of Glossop Guild, a community formed in 2009 to promote liberal education in and around the town. Glossop is a former mill town at the northern end of the Peak District National Park in the United Kingdom. The Guild expects to promote a wide range of courses, all of which are provided for the interest and enlightenment of participants. The Guild aims to select tutors on the basis of their ability to present lively and challenging courses, as well as for their expertise and experience. Members and participants are encouraged to contribute their own views and engage in informative discussions...

Membership costs £5 and is renewable annually from 1st May. Members elect the Managing Committee, advise on the choice of courses and benefit from reductions in course fees. You are welcome to join us. This site has now been updated to include details of all courses offered in the Autumn 2011 and Spring 2012 Programmes.

Booking arrangements

STOP PRESS:    All Autumn courses will be running as planned. Places are nevertheless still available on every course.

Courses may be booked by post, using the form downloaded from the link below. Bookings may also be made on-line. To do so, click on the 'Booking page' above.

If you book by post, please complete both halves of the booking form and return them with a stamped self-addressed envelope. This helps to reduce our administrative load and ensures that receipts are returned to you in timely fashion. Postal receipts will not otherwise be provided. On-line receipts will only be provided to those who book and pay on-line.

Because the Guild does not have its own premises, it has to guard against having to pay cancellation fees. For this reason, we ask that you honour the early booking deadlines, so ensuring that courses will be viable. Deadlines are often extended for courses which prove viable but are not initially fully booked. Sometimes capacity is limited, either by the facilities available at the venue or in the interests of a successful interactive course. The best way to ensure that a course will run and that you have a place on it is by booking early.

Despite these uncertainties, most courses do run, either because they are well-subscribed or because they are subsidized by income from other courses. Please assume that the courses you have booked will run. We will advise you in good time, if for any reason a course has to be cancelled.

You can download a booking form from the link below or book on-line via our 'Booking' Page.
